He married Dorthea Birgithe Madsen on 16 June 1838, in Vium, Silkeborg, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Vium, Lysgård, Viborg, Denmark for about 5 years and Lysgård, Lysgård, Silkeborg, Denmark in 1860. He died on 10 April 1908, at the age of 97.
