When Verena Sutter was born on 25 November 1858, in Ebnat, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland, her father, Johann Jakob Suter, was 27 and her mother, Anna Barbara Bleiker, was 28. She married Johann Melchior Grob on 4 October 1881. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. She died on 21 March 1899, at the age of 40, and was buried in Switzerland.
