Orwin Fern's parents were John P. Downey and Mary (Stevens) Downey, both natives of Rush County/Posey Twp. and also buried in Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Orwin went by "Fern" all his life. He was tragically killed on a foggy morning as he returned a tractor that he had repaired at his place of business. The Interurban train struck him at the crossing just west of Arlington. His widow and six children mourned his death at age of 46.
