When Lois Stevens was born on 10 May 1774, in Windham, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America, her father, Peter Stevens, Jr, was 36 and her mother, Lois Glass, was 31. She married Jaazamiah Howe on 30 September 1798, in Wells, Rutland, Vermont, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 3 daughters. She lived in Persia, Cattaraugus, New York, United States in 1850. She died on 23 March 1854, in Gowanda, Persia, Cattaraugus, New York, United States, at the age of 79, and was buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Gowanda, Collins, Erie, New York, United States.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
