When Johann Gottfried Stoerl or Sterl was born on 2 September 1754, in Seifersdorf bei Freiberg, Kreis Freiberg, Saxony, Germany, his father, Johann Christoph Stoerl or Sterl, was 32 and his mother, Anna Maria Pflugbeil, was 27. He married Johanna Sophia Fritzsche on 19 January 1776. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 18 September 1806, in his hometown, at the age of 52.
