He married Anna Fay Rees on 13 October 1951, in Oregon City, Clackamas, Oregon, United States. He lived in San Jose, Santa Clara, California, United States in 1964 and San José, Costa Rica in 1964. He died on 29 January 2002, in The Villages, Sumter, Florida, United States, at the age of 72.
