He lived in Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom in 1820 and Essa Township, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada for about 10 years. He died on 7 January 1893, in Alliston, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 72, and was buried in Alliston Union Cemetery, Alliston, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada.
