When Filemu Leilua was born in 1910, in Upolu, Samoa, his father, Aotoa Leilua, was 33 and his mother, Sesilia Sala, was 31. He married Paepae Falaga'i in 1930, in Lano, Samoa. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. He died in 1949, in Matautu, Tuamasaga, Upolu, Samoa, at the age of 39.
