When Hans Jacob schaerer was born on 17 January 1808, in Schönenberg, Zürich, Switzerland, his father, David Schärer, was 35 and his mother, Lisabetha Aeschmann, was 33. He married Anna Easter Hauser on 9 February 1835, in Richterswil, Zürich, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 1 daughter. He died on 23 April 1876, at the age of 68.
