When William Lees was born on 3 March 1843, in Ancaster, Hamilton-Wentworth, Ontario, Canada, his father, Alexander Lees, was 19 and his mother, Mary Cairns, was 20. He died on 14 May 1899, at the age of 56, and was buried in Riversdale, Bruce, Ontario, Canada.

    1867 · Ontario Founded

    On July 1, 1867, the province of Ontario was founded. It is the second largest province in Canada. A third of the population of Canada live here. Before it was Ontario it was called Upper Canada and had a Governor.

    British Columbia joins the confederation.

    1883 · Mining Boom

    In 1883, there was a mining boom in Northern Ontario when mineral deposits were found near Sudbury. Thomas Flanagan was the blacksmith for the Canadian Pacific Railway that noticed the deposits in the river.
