When Hans Heinrich Diener was born on 1 March 1739, in Fischenthal, Zürich, Switzerland, his father, Hans Ulrich Diener, was 28 and his mother, Margareta Sprey, was 26. He married Anna Egli on 27 June 1762. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 2 October 1780, at the age of 41.
