When Christen Nielsen was born on 12 February 1811, in Tårnborg, Korsør, Denmark, his father, Niels Christensen, was 32 and his mother, Magrethe Jespersdatter, was 33. He married Caroline Clausen on 25 May 1838, in Skælskør, Sorø, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Skælskør, Sorø, Denmark for about 20 years. He died on 6 April 1867, at the age of 56.
