When Maria Bertha Allgöwer was born on 28 May 1837, in St. Gallen, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland, her father, David Allgöwer, was 33 and her mother, Anna Maria Vonwiller, was 26. She married Johannes Jacob Ambühl on 27 September 1883, in Walzenhausen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland. She died on 12 September 1902, in her hometown, at the age of 65.
