History: The progenitors of the (majority of the) Courtrights (and Cortrights, Kortrights, etc.) were the brothers Jan and Michiel Bastiansen van Kortryk from Leerdam in the Netherlands, who arrived with their families to New Amsterdam in New Netherland (now New York City, NY) in 1663. The descendants of one or another brother also bear the surnames Kortright, Kortwright, Cortright, Co(u)rtwright, Cartwright, and Cu(r)tright.
