Brief Life History of Joseph

When Joseph Boshart was born in 1790, in France, his father, Jean Bossard, was 41 and his mother, Anna Maria Müller, was 47. He married Catherine Conrad on 6 February 1823, in Luemschwiller, Haut-Rhin, France. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 7 daughters. He died on 6 November 1866, in Wellesley Township, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 76.

1792 · Beginnings of the Republic

The first French Republic was founded during the French Revolution. It lasted from the French Revolution until the first empire. It marked the end of the Monarchy, establishment of the National Convention, the reign of Terror, the directory,  and the consulate.

1793 · Reign of Terror

The reign of terror took place after the French Revolution. It claimed somewhere between 18,500 - 40,000 lives. The government at the time was exercising a more dictatorial form of government. The terror started with the execution of Marie Antoinette and ended with the fall of Robespierre.

South German: rare variant of Bosshart (cognate of 2 below) and, in North America, (also) an altered form of this and of the same Swiss German surname.

Dutch: from a personal name composed of the ancient Germanic elements bōs ‘bad, evil, wild, angry’ and hard ‘hardy, strong, brave’, or a derivative of a short form of the personal name Burkhart (compare Boss ).

In some cases reportedly also an altered form of Bushart , a surname of German or perhaps French origin.
