He died on 5 July 1818, in Lewisburg, Greenbrier, Virginia, United States, at the age of 74, and was buried in Lewisburg, Greenbrier, West Virginia, United States.

History: A Scottish family of this name (see 1 above) has been established at Hunterston (Ayrshire) since the 13th century.
