When Christen Beusch was born on 26 January 1777, in Buchs, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland, his father, Leonhard Beusch, was 47 and his mother, Anna Muentener, was 23. He married Dorothea Seifert on 23 May 1798, in Buchs, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 18 March 1863, at the age of 86.

German and Swiss German: nickname from Middle High German kiusche ‘pure, chaste’; given the word's more extensive meaning in the Middle Ages, ‘gentle, moderate, good tempered’, a religious purity may well have been implied.
