When Jacob Reber was born on 17 July 1825, in Schangnau, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Jakob Reber, was 35 and his mother, Barbara Bieri, was 34. He married Elisabeth Blatter on 3 June 1849, in Koppigen, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 3 March 1887, in Switzerland, at the age of 61.
