He married Ann Nancy Graves on 10 May 1784, in Henry, Virginia, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters. He died in December 1804, in his hometown, at the age of 45, and was buried in Henry, Franklin County, Virginia, United States.

On April 18, 1780 Richmond became the capital of Virginia. It was the temporary capital from 1780-1788.
1786 · Shays' Rebellion
Caused by war veteran Daniel Shays, Shays' Rebellion was to protest economic and civil rights injustices that he and other farmers were seeing after the Revolutionary War. Because of the Rebellion it opened the eyes of the governing officials that the Articles of Confederation needed a reform. The Rebellion served as a guardrail when helping reform the United States Constitution.
