    1843 · The Disruption in the Church of Scotland

    The Disruption of 1843 was a division within the Church of Scotland, which 474 evangelical ministers of the Church broke away from the Church to form the Free Church of Scotland. They didn’t reject the principles of the Church of Scotland but were trying to establish a purer version of the Church without the King or Parliament being its head. It had huge effects not only within the Church of Scotland, but also with Scottish civic life.

    1847 · The United Presbyterian Church of Scotland is established.

    The United Presbyterian Church of Scotland was formed in 1847. For most of its existence the United Presbyterian Church was the third largest Presbyterian Church in Scotland and flourished in Scotland for 53 years. After being reunited with the Church of Scotland in 1929, it continues to bring relief to the local communities.

    Name Meaning

    Scottish: habitational name from the province and former kingdom of Fife in East Scotland, a name of obscure etymology. Tradition has it that the name is derived from an eponymous Fib, one of the seven sons of Cruithne, legendary founding father of the Picts.
