He married Catherine Heyson in 1824, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, British North America. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 6 daughters. He lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1824. He died in June 1877, in Indian Point, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada, at the age of 78.
