When Mary Catherine Steffey was born on 15 January 1767, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, British Colonial America, her father, Johannes Staffour Steffey, was 21 and her mother, Anna Maria Heyl, was 25. She married Adam Dutton on 6 March 1787, in Montgomery, Virginia, United States. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 6 daughters. She died on 5 May 1852, in Wythe, Virginia, United States, at the age of 85, and was buried in Kimberling Cemetery, Rural Retreat, Wythe, Virginia, United States.
