When Daniel Fankhauser was born on 16 September 1683, in Eggiwil, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Jakob Fankhauser, was 23 and his mother, Anna Röthlisberger, was 22. He married Elsbeth Steiner on 8 August 1704. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 7 daughters. He died in 1745, in his hometown, at the age of 62.
