When Taula Lapalapa was born in 1883, in Mulifanua, Aiga-i-le-Tai, Upolu, Samoa, his father, Lapalapa Lapalapa, was 24 and his mother, Lapalapa, was 22. He married Sipiga Mau Langiava in 1904, in Mulifanua, Aiga-i-le-Tai, Upolu, Samoa. He died in October 1964, at the age of 81, and was buried in Lalovi, Samoa.
