When George Washington Johnson was born on 31 August 1863, in Kentucky, United States, his father, Francis Marion Johnson, was 25 and his mother, Malinda Jane Barnett, was 31. He married Esther Alice Guthery on 29 October 1892. They were the parents of at least 12 sons and 2 daughters. He lived in Beaver Township, Taney, Missouri, United States for about 20 years and Brownbranch, Taney, Missouri, United States in 1940. He died on 16 November 1942, in Springfield, Greene, Missouri, United States, at the age of 79, and was buried in Bethel Cemetery, Beaver Township, Taney, Missouri, United States.

1865 · The Assassination of a President

"While attending the play ""Our American Cousin"" in Ford's Theatre, actor John Wilkes Booth climbed up the stairs to the suite that President Abraham Lincoln and his wife resided. Once inside the suite Booth pulled out his pistol and shot The President in the head. In critical condition The President was carried out of the theatre for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, Lincoln died the following day. Abraham Lincoln was the first American president to be assassinated, and his death caused a period of national mourning both in the North and South."

History: Surname Johnson was brought independently to North America by many different bearers from the 17th and 18th centuries onward. Andrew Johnson (1808–75), 17th president of the US, was born in Raleigh, NC, the younger son of Jacob Johnson and Mary (or Polly) McDonough. Little is known of his ancestors. The 36th president, Lyndon B. Johnson, dates his American forebears back seven generations to James Johnston (sic) (born c. 1662) who lived at Currowaugh, Nansemond, and Isle of Wight counties, VA. — Noted early bearers also include Marmaduke Johnson (died 1674), a printer who came from England to MA in 1660; Edward Johnson (1598–1672), a colonial chronicler who was baptized at St. George's parish, Canterbury, England, and emigrated to Boston in 1630; and Sir Nathaniel Johnson (c. 1645–1713), a colonial governor of Carolina, who came from County Durham, England.
