He married Anna- Liisa Mikkola on 19 November 1950, in Jyväskylä, Vaasa, Finland. He died on 17 January 2004, in Palokka, Jyväskylän maalaiskunta, Vaasa, Finland, at the age of 78, and was buried in Tikkakoski, Keski-Suomi, Finland.
