When Margaret Sweetman was born in April 1769, in Freehold Borough, Monmouth, New Jersey, United States, her father, Thomas Sweetman, was 30 and her mother, Sarah Kerr, was 24. She married Bostwick Brown about 1798. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. She died in July 1813, at the age of 44, and was buried in Junius, Seneca, New York, United States.

1775

During the six-year Revolutionary war, more of the fights took place in New Jersey than any other colony. Over 296 engagements between opposing forces were recorded. One of the largest conflicts of the entire war took place between Morristown and Middlebrook, referred to as the "Ten Crucial Days" and remembered by the famous phrase "the times that try men's souls". The revolution won some of their most desperately needed victories during this time.

1781 · The First Constitution

Serving the newly created United States of America as the first constitution, the Articles of Confederation were an agreement among the 13 original states preserving the independence and sovereignty of the states. But with a limited central government, the Constitutional Convention came together to replace the Articles of Confederation with a more established Constitution and central government on where the states can be represented and voice their concerns and comments to build up the nation.

Name Meaning

English: from the Middle English personal name Swetman (Old English Swētmann, Old Norse Svetman), or else a nickname from Middle English swet(e) ‘sweet, beloved, handsome’ + -man, from which the personal names derive. This name was established in Ireland in the 13th century where it was Gaelicized as Suatman.
