When William James Bird was born on 12 October 1818, in South Carolina, United States, his father, Hugh Bird, was 38 and his mother, Mildred W Gooch, was 35. He married Susan Jane Mitchell on 31 October 1839, in Montgomery, Alabama, United States. They were the parents of at least 8 sons and 10 daughters. He lived in Alabama, United States in 1870 and Election Precinct 1 Surles and Coleman, Crenshaw, Alabama, United States in 1900. He died on 31 July 1902, at the age of 83, and was buried in Rocky Mount Cemetery, Highland Home, Crenshaw, Alabama, United States.
