When James Rodger was born on 22 August 1781, in Inveresk, Midlothian, Scotland, his father, William Rodger or Roger, was 29 and his mother, Jean Kirkwood, was 25. He married Anne Kirkwood on 27 July 1799, in Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 12 September 1838, at the age of 57.
