When Richard Dickinson was born about 1833, in Wakefield, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada, his father, Darius "Tertullus" Dickinson, was 38 and his mother, Elizabeth Thomas, was 29. He married Sabie Shaw on 23 October 1856. He died in 1894, at the age of 62.

History: Jonathan Dickinson, the first president of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton), was born in Hatfield, MA, in 1688. Both his parents came from pioneer Connecticut Valley stock.
