He married America Crawford on 12 December 1854, in Breathitt, Kentucky, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 7 daughters. He died on 14 September 1878, in Laurel, Kentucky, United States, at the age of 56, and was buried in Bowling Cemetery, East Bernstadt, Laurel, Kentucky, United States.
