He married Margrieta Hartmann on 3 March 1795, in Ernestown Township, Lennox and Addington, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Ridgeway, Ridgeway, Orleans, New York, United States in 1880. He died on 29 June 1820, in Sidney Township, Hastings, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 47, and was buried in Sidney Township, Hastings, Ontario, Canada.

Caused by war veteran Daniel Shays, Shays' Rebellion was to protest economic and civil rights injustices that he and other farmers were seeing after the Revolutionary War. Because of the Rebellion it opened the eyes of the governing officials that the Articles of Confederation needed a reform. The Rebellion served as a guardrail when helping reform the United States Constitution.
