He married Martha E Wilson on 21 December 1879, in Fulton, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Alva Township, Woods, Oklahoma, United States in 1900 and Hackberry Township, Texas, Oklahoma, United States in 1910. He died on 15 December 1938, in Oakland, Alameda, California, United States, at the age of 85, and was buried in Hardesty, Texas, Oklahoma, United States.

1856 · The Town of Santa Claus

The town of Santa Fe was denied their application for a United States Postal Service as a town of Santa Fe, Indiana, was already established. Several meetings were held and the name was changed to Santa Claus, Indiana. The United States Postal Service granted their application. Due to the name, the post office in Santa Claus continues to receive thousands of letters to Santa Claus from children around the world each December.

1876 · The First Worlds Fair in the U.S.

The First official World's Fair, was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. 37 Countries provided venues for all to see.
