When Hans Larsen Sørli Westby was born in 1790, in Øvre Tennel, Sør-Trøndelag, Norway, his father, Lars Embretsen Nordre Berg, was 33 and his mother, Mari Larsdatter Rovelstad, was 33. He married Anne Nilsdatter Eier on 19 December 1812, in Sør-Odal, Hedmark, Norway. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. He died in 1876, in Vestby, Trysil, Hedmark, Norway, at the age of 86.
