When Elín Árnadóttir the younger was born on 6 May 1836, in Vestur-Skaftafellssýsla, Southern, Iceland, her father, Árni Hjörtsson, was 32 and her mother, Elín Þorsteinsdóttir, was 27. She married Arni Gislason on 18 October 1860, in Iceland. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. She died on 19 September 1903, at the age of 67.
