When Mary Orrick was born on 19 December 1791, in Berkeley, Virginia, United States, her father, Major Charles Orrick, was 29 and her mother, Catherine Davenport, was 26. She married James Harlan on 11 March 1812. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 5 daughters. She lived in Woodford, Woodford, Illinois, United States in 1850. She died on 29 May 1862, in Washington, Tazewell, Illinois, United States, at the age of 70, and was buried in Glendale Cemetery, Washington Township, Tazewell, Illinois, United States.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
