He married Margaret Kernaghan in 1870, in Newry, County Down, Ireland. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 22 June 1905, in Goodna, Queensland, Australia, at the age of 65, and was buried in Stanthorpe, Queensland, Australia.
