When Robert Covell was born on 15 January 1787, in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, Matthew Covell, was 24 and his mother, Orrela "Aurelia" Tuttle, was 22. He married Almira Baldwin on 2 December 1809, in Elmira, Chemung, New York, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 6 daughters. He died on 2 April 1864, in Elmira, Chemung, New York, United States, at the age of 77, and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, Chemung, New York, United States.

1788 · The First Presidential Election

The First Presidential election was held in the newly created United States of America. Under the Articles of Confederation, the executive branch of the country was not set up for an individual to help lead the nation. So, under the United States Constitution they position was put in. Because of his prominent roles during the Revolutionary War, George Washington was voted in unanimously as the First President of the United States.

1791 · Whiskey Rebellion Occurs

The Whiskey Rebellion was a protest against taxes on whiskey by farmers and distillers. People were tarred and feathered. They attacked Bower Hill and headed towards Pittsburgh. The militia was sent in to try and stop it. It finally ended with a repeal of the tax.

Atlantic slave trade abolished.
