He married Margaret Haliburton on 11 November 1546, in Durisdeer, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 8 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 7 March 1600, in Forfar, Angus, Scotland, United Kingdom, at the age of 78.
