1867 · Sorry Mr. President, You can't do that.

This Act was to restrict the power of the President removing certain office holders without approval of the Senate. It denies the President the power to remove any executive officer who had been appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate, unless the Senate approved the removal during the next full session of Congress. The Amendment was later repealed.

1867 · Oregon Pioneer Association

The Oregon Pioneer Society was organized in October 1867. Their purpose was to keep a list of members and when they moved to Oregon. The Oregon Pioneer Society became the Oregon Pioneer Association on October 18, 1873. The Association dissolved in 1928. 

1881 · The Assassination of James Garfield

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.
