Maria was born on 27 August 1769, in Hemmental, Schaffhausen, Switzerland as the daughter of Jacob Leu and Jakob. She had at least 6 sons and 3 daughters with Melchior Leu. She died on 18 March 1844, in her hometown, at the age of 74.
