He lived in Clay, Illinois, United States in 1850 and Scott Township, Linn, Kansas, United States in 1860. He died on 9 January 1862, in Linn, Kansas, United States, at the age of 46, and was buried in Brooklyn Cemetery, La Cygne, Linn, Kansas, United States.

1818 · Jackson Purchase

The western part of Kentucky purchased by Andrew Jackson from the Chickasaw Indians in 1818. It became known as the Jackson Purchase. This included land that wasn't originally part of Kentucky when it became a state.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

Probably an altered form of French Vermillon: nickname from vermillon ‘bright red, vermilion’. The surname Vermillon is very rare in France.

History: This surname was already established in NC and WV in the 18th century. Its first recorded American bearer was Giles Vermillion, who in 1698 lived in MD.
