When Margaret Ritchie was born on 22 May 1818, in Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, her father, John Ritchie, was 25 and her mother, Jane Taylor, was 24. She married George Lochhead on 3 July 1843, in Abbey, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 3 daughters. In 1851 she lived with her husband who was a hand loom weaver on # 59 Elderslie. Margaret was baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1852. George and Margaret lost two of their small children, John age 3 and Janet age 2 both died in 1852 . Then 3 years later, in August, they lost their 8 year old son, James. About a year later on September 23, 1856 at 7am in the morning, Margaret died from convulsion fits that she had for about 12 days. She had no medical attention, but was attended by her husband. At her death on High Street, Johnston( or Elderslie), her mother, Jean Taylor Ritchie was already deceased. Her father was a grocer. She was buried at the Johnston Church yard, certified by her husband, George Lochhead.
