He married Verena Baumann on 3 April 1834, in St. Peterzell, Neckertal, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 7 daughters. He died on 19 April 1857, at the age of 53, and was buried in Mogelsberg, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland.
