He married Ann Allston DuPre on 23 April 1845, in Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 6 daughters. He lived in Mecklenburg, North Carolina, United States in 1860 and Laurens, Laurens, South Carolina, United States in 1870. He died on 19 March 1892, in Mount Pleasant, Charleston, South Carolina, United States, at the age of 74, and was buried in Christ Church Parish, Charleston, South Carolina, United States.
