She immigrated to United States in 1879 and lived in Oakland, Alameda, California, United States in 1900 and Judicial Township 2, San Mateo, California, United States in 1910. She died on 1 April 1957, in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, United States, at the age of 78, and was buried in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, United States.

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.
Angel Island served as a quarantine station for those diagnosed with bubonic plague beginning in 1891.
