When Salome Thommen was born in 1778, in Anwil, Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland, her father, Durs Thommen, was 33 and her mother, Verena Seiler, was 34. She married Henry Schaffner on 19 February 1799, in Sissach, Basel, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 6 daughters. She died in 1816, at the age of 38.
