He married Nancy Rust on 25 May 1805, in Virginia, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 13 January 1862, in Loudoun, Virginia, United States, at the age of 86, and was buried in Loudoun, Virginia, United States.

1780 · Richmond Becomes the Capital

On April 18, 1780 Richmond became the capital of Virginia. It was the temporary capital from 1780-1788.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.

English: habitational name from Glascote near Tamworth in Staffordshire, named from Old English glæs ‘glass’ + cot ‘hut, shelter’; it was probably once a site inhabited by a glass blower.
