When Rasmus Hansen was born on 30 March 1849, in Flårup, Fuglse, Ålholm, Denmark, his father, Hans Olsen Ploug, was 41 and his mother, Dorthe Larsdatter, was 41. He married Karen Nielsen on 24 July 1874, in Toreby, Ålholm, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Fuglse, Fuglse, Ålholm, Denmark for about 10 years and Nykøbing Falster, Nykøbing, Denmark in 1880. He died on 3 May 1904, in Kearney, Nebraska, United States, at the age of 55, and was buried in Kearney, Nebraska, United States.

1850 · Translation of the Book of Mormon into Danish

Erastus Snow and Peter Hansen translated the Book of Mormon into Danish after six months of being in the country. This translation was the first full translation of the Book of Mormon into another language, after English.

1854

On May 30, 1854, the Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed. It allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide whether or not they wanted to allow slavery within their borders. This Act repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820.
