When Franz Jost was born on 6 November 1711, in Brechershäusern, Wynigen, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Jost Jost, was 42 and his mother, Barbara Truessel, was 41. He married Anna Kräuchi on 20 January 1747. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 8 June 1793, at the age of 81.
